All-New Revised Edition

Attention deficit disorder (ADD) is a national health crisis that continues to grow yet it remains one of the most misunderstood and incorrectly treated illnesses today. Neuropsychiatrist Daniel G. Amen, MD was one of the first to identify that there are multiple types beyond just purely hyperactive or inattentive ADD, each requiring a different treatment. Now, in this all-new, revised edition, Dr. Amen again employs the latest medical advances in the field, including the largest brain imaging study ever completed on patients with ADD, to identify, examine, and demystify the 7 distinct types of ADD and their specific treatments.

With updated recommendations for nutraceuticals and/or medications targeted to brain type, diet, exercise, lifestyle interventions, cognitive reprogramming, parenting and educational strategies, neurofeedback, and more, Dr. Amen's revolutionary approach provides a treatment program that can lead sufferers of ADD to a normal, peaceful, and fully functional life.

Sufferers from ADD often say, The harder I try, the worse it gets. Dr. Amen tells them, for the first time, why, and more importantly how to heal ADD.

I keep referring to this to remind me of natural and non-medicated methods to deal with ADD.

It is helpful to read such a well thought out book on the subject of ADD.It defines the different aspects of the disorder with clarity. So even though brain science is changing so rapidly,it enables anyone to acquire a reasonable understanding of the subject.

Very interesting, lots of brain scans - pictures about the brain during activities.A bit sad, that it's not so widely known here in the UK.It says that the attention deficit has more than 2 types. It is mind blowing finding yourself or your family members in it.

The author clearly loves to do something about ADD - and the more complex and expensive it is, the better. So let's start with a brain scan (regardless of whether a patient responds to standard treatment or not) and add all kinds of clinical tests (still not quite sure what justifies every blood test under the sun, for most of them he does not even explain how they might be related to ADD). He shrugs off clinical studies questioning whether his methods are proportionate by some anecdotal evidence. This, the lack of clear structure and the long-winded style make it very difficult to follow. The Audible book aggravates this by an extremely slow and boring voice. What remains is the hypothesis of seven types of ADD. As the author does not bother to analyse literature or work with researchers to validate them, it is all a bit stale.
